ACT II Community Theatre – Performs Dickens “A Christmas Carol” – December 11 & 12

Press Release

December 5, 2023

ACT II Community Theatre brings the Orson Welles radio version of A Christmas Carol to the Bohm Theatre stage in downtown Albion, Michigan. This version of the 1938 live radio show, adapted by John Face, will be presented by ACT II Community Theatre’s group of actors. The show has two performances planned, Monday, December 11, and Tuesday, December 12. 7:00 P.M. curtain for both nights.

This two-act play is Narrated by Carolyn Face Gilg and follows Ebenezer Scrooge, played by Tom McClure, as he walks the earth with three spirits, learning what a waste his life has been by being an evil old mizer. The spirits of the Ghost of Christmas Past, played by Lynn Schofield-Dahl, and the Ghost of Christmas Present, played by Sylvia Benavidez, lead Scrooge through a host of scenes where he sees the Cratchit family, headed by Bob Cratchit and played by Tom Davis, and others teaching him how evil he truly is. The last spirit is an exchange where Scrooge “speaks” for the spirit of Christmas Yet to Come, in a riveting performance by McClure that brings chills to the observer when Scrooge has his eyes opened to see the light of goodness.

Tom McClure as Scrooge

Tom Davis as Bob Cratchit and Carolyn Face-Gilg as the Narrator

The show is co-directed by Tom McClure and John Face. Tom is the current president of ACT II Theatre and has served as a member of the original Albion Community Theater and the Albion Youth Theater. “It has been a true pleasure to work with this cast. Please enjoy the show as much as we have enjoyed bringing it to you”, he said. A Christmas Carol is the first time John has directed, and he says, “I get to learn by working with a great director like Tom.” He has been involved in community theatre for years and is proud to be part of this play with some great actors. He hopes you all enjoy this labor of love from this cast.

The cast cleverly performs the sound effects and sings all the music themselves. The cast’s beautiful rendition of Silent Night that closes the show is a fitting start for everyone’s holiday season.

Monday and Tuesday night, December 11 & 12, at 7:00 P.M., performed at the Bohm Theatre in Downtown Albion, Michigan.
