Shooting and Large Crowd Response in Springfield MI

On Sunday, April 3 at approximately 10 p.m., the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 400 block of N 25th St in the City of Springfield for a report of a shooting victim and a large crowd.
While units were responding to the shooting, a separate call for service was dispatched for a traffic accident at the intersection of N 20th St and Avenue A in the City of Springfield. One of the individuals involved in the accident was identified as the shooting victim. Deputies and assisting personnel rendered medical aid until medical personnel arrived on scene. The victim was then transported to the hospital for further medical attention.

The victim is a 25-year-old male resident from the City of Springfield. He was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries and is currently under medical care. Additional units checked the address on N 25th St for any other victims. No other victims were located or reported. Detectives and CAMJET crime technicians processed both scenes for evidence and leads. The scene of the traffic accident was also processed by the Accident Reconstruction Unit.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Battle Creek Police Department, Michigan State Police, Springfield Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance Service.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Further investigation at the intersection of N 20th St and Avenue A will take place this morning, April 4, and the intersection will be closed during that. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information about the incident to call the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office at 269-781-0880 or Silent Observer at 269-781-0912.
